Shoppers evacuated from Manchester Arndale due to fire
Eye witnesses reported seeing firefighters inside the market building and shoppers and staff were asked to leave the city centre mall at around 4pm.
Fire engines were seen close to the entrance on High Street and one person said they believed the fire had broken out inside the market but couldn’t be sure whether it was a food stall or something else.
Greater Manchester Police later confirmed at around 5.30pm, that a fire had broken out, but that it had since been contained.

Following this, the Arndale Centre fully reopened around 7.30pm but the market remained closed.
The centre will fully reopen shortly following an earlier incident in the adjoining Arndale Market. Thank you to our customers for your patience and apologies for any inconvenience caused.

It is believed the fire broke out in the south side of the market hall although it’s not yet clear whether this part of the market will reopen tomorrow (Saturday November 11), with traders being told to contact the Arndale management team in the morning to check.
