Family of Michael McCann pay tribute after death in Bolton

Michael McCann, 35, died over last weekend after officers were called to a stabbing at Back Bradford Street, the Haulgh, on the evening of Friday, June 7.

Mr McCann was taken to hospital but died of his injuries two days later and his family have now paid tribute.

A statement from the family said: “Our family will miss our brother’s smile as it showed what true happiness looked like.

“Michael’s sole purpose in life was the needs for his family.

“He will now miss out on being the brother and uncle that he wanted to be.

“We will always cherish the time we had together and the memories that we have all individually shared together.

“Although we had hoped for more than we have already, they will never be taken for granted.”

Mr McCann’s cousin added his voice to those paying tribute.

He said: “As a family we are in total shock and deeply devastated by this terrible news. Micky was like my younger brother and our three children loved their Uncle Micky.

“We can’t believe we will never get to see his cheeky smile again. We will all miss you so much. We love you Micky.”

Three people have since been charged in connection with Mr McCann’s death.

Paul Simmons, 48 of Bradford Street has been charged with murder.

Jordan Downes, 31 of no fixed abode, has been charged with assisting an offender while Kelly Hughes, 37 also of no fixed abode has been charged with obstructing police.

Simmons and Downes both appeared before Bolton Crown Court for a brief hearing on Wednesday, June 12.

The Honorary Recorder for Bolton Judge Martin Walsh ruled that they will both be brought back to court to enter their pleas on Monday, August 19.

He set a provisional date for the trial on Monday, January 13 next year, which is expected to take around 10 days.

Police have appealed for anyone with any further information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola McCulloch said: “Our investigation is progressing, having charged three people in relation to this incident.
