Works to take place at Halliwell Road, Bolton junction

The works will take place at the junction of Halliwell Road with the top end of Wolfenden Street next week, according to a notice sent out to people living in the area.

Cllr Kevin Morris, of Halliwell, says that this comes after he reported problems people had been facing there to Bolton Council.

He said: “I noticed on a recent walk round of the area that the junction was in a bad state of repair, and I have had a number of residents contact me regarding this matter.

“A resident who uses a wheelchair and regularly uses the junction told me it was very difficult to manoeuvre crossing from one side to the other and he was quite fearful of tipping over.

“People with prams, etc also said it was uneven & bumpy when crossing there.

“I therefore contacted the highways team at the council and after being assessed I was contacted to say that a programme of resurfacing works are to be carried out.”

Bolton Council’s Highways and Engineering Division sent letters out to people living around Halliwell Road and Wolfenden Street at the start of this week.

They say that works resurfacing the road will take place between Monday February 19 and Wednesday February 21, weather permitting.

People have been advised not to try and go into the working area at this time, given the dangers that can be present on construction sites.

Cllr Morris said: “This is great news for all our pedestrians and motorists who use this busy junction and nearby residents and local businesses will receive a letter explaining when the works are to commence. 

“Obviously when road works take place especially on a busy junction traffic delays can be expected bit every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum.

“I thank all residents and motorists for their patience but these works are sometimes vital and necessary and I am sure will certainly improve the junction once completed.”
